Contradictions, angst but so much left unanswered.

I liked the blurb and was looking forward to experiencing the story of, for me, a new author. There are contradictions galore and a bucket load of angst but there is no engagement or investment in any character from my perspective.
Kerry is a foster kid that has no family, except he does. Malcolm is a Dom, except he isn't. Charlie is a photographer, but isn't anymore (we aren't given a reason). Kerry has no home, but he does. Malcolm hated his foster monster, except he finishes that man's dream after he dies. And Charlie is a sub, who isn't or...
There are so many contradictions I got frustrated. Kerry's boyfriend (who isn't) is straight to the world and doesn't acknowledge him he just has sex with him and is mean. Did I mention he was Kerry's friend then his bully now his lover? Kerry has had enough when Andrew doesn't acknowledge him at his birthday party - but why would he because Andrew doesn't like Kerry (except he does) and only wants him for sex. Kerry walks down to the beach, drunk, and he falls asleep. He wakes to find two hot guys, he has been robbed, and he is soaking wet. Malcolm and Charlie take him home, clean him up and he leaves. He goes home to his roommate to find all his stuff is trashed, his books torn in half and that someone has it in for him. Then his roommate Matt gives him his marching orders - crappy time. His boss gives him her couch but he is so disconnected to everything and everyone that even when people are friendly he doesn't perceive friendship. His roommate thinks they are friends, but Kerry doesn't. Mal and Charlie have been together for fifteen years and are seeking something that is missing, they have tried with others but it never worked and so now they are looking at Kerry. There is a lot of angst and a relationship that isn't forms (I know, more contradictions). Not only does the non-relationship, non-Dom/sub thing not work but the relationship between Mal and Charlie starts to disintegrate. And who is targeting Kerry?
There are questions left after you finish the book. There are pictures of Alistair and his mother is mentioned but then nothing - who is he, where is he? There is a foster brother mentioned, he is found and never mentioned again. There are story threads that twine and then there is just nothing. There is so much potential and you start to see prospects of the story improving and then it doesn't.
There are bits I liked, bits that were a yawn and then there is the person targeting Kerry. Big let-down, no vengeance, no nothing really. And it was so easy to see who it would be, we were basically told at the beginning. I have never seen a Dom/sub relationship like Mal and Charlie, and then there is the same(ish) with Charlie and Kerry. But it is in the ether. And I still don't know what there is between Mal and Kerry really.
Can I suggest you get a sample and see if it grabs you. It tried to grab me then missed completely. If it was food I would still be hungry.

I still don't know what to say

This is a really hard book for me to give a rating and to review so I will just do what I can.

I liked this book. When I had to stop reading I thought about it and wanted to know what happens next.

The author is a great writer. The characters were well developed and the books was smooth and very well pinned.

I enjoy BDSM, MM, MMM. slave/ master, all the subjects that this book gets into.

But I don't get it.

The first book seemed to be more about Mal and Kerry. The second half is Charlie and Kerry.

And that's okay except it seemed to backtrack on what was said eariler. Like Mal was this big Dom and wanted what he wanted. He wants Kerry? No, he wants Charlie to submit. Charlie wants Kerry? No he's jealous of Kerry? No he wants Kerry. I was just so confused that I HAD to keep reading so I could try to figure it out.

And I wanted my happily ever after. Sure, the characters are very happy with their places in life but... I wanted them all to be together.

At the end I just didn't see it. I saw Mal only wanting Charlie and giving CHarlie Kerry but not being invested himself. It was all about Charlie. Even though Kerry told him nurmous times that he wanted Mal?

I understand that the author was showing different types of submission but it just didn't wrap together at the end for me.

Now like I said it is really hard to review/ rate this book.

It is a good book. Emotional and heart wretching and happy and very well written. I just feel off at the end.

Do I recommend this book? Yes, it is worth the time to read. But I don't know if I will re-read it.

I took my time and savored it.

I know a book is good when I take my time reading it. I tend to speed read if I'm not connecting to what I'm reading. And only review the books I connect with. Of the three MCs I really identified with Kerry very strongly. Everybody has damage and it's how we deal or not deal with that makes us who we are. For me that's what this book is at it's core. Malcolm and Charlie were harder for me but I think that's because their coping mechanisms are not mine but others will see themselves the way I saw myself in Kerry. This was a wonderful book that made me think about what drives people underneath the surface where their damage hides. Great book.

This is an excellent treatment of the nature of the archaeological study of the ancient cultures of Mesopotamia. It is erudite and up-to-date, well-referenced, and thought-provoking; the book is also very well written and interesting. For readers with a serious interest in the archaeology of Mesopotamia, this book is a must.

Pithy, thorough and fascinating

This is a hefty price for a slim volume, but it delivers a lot: an introduction to the methods and theories of archaeology, a historical context for European archaeology in Iraq and how it has shaped our views of `mesopotamia', and a fascinating series of case studies which illustrate key moments in the transition from hunter-gatherer communities to the eventual establishment of the world's first empires.

The book is full of pictures and marvelous stories that even a Strong devotee of Shiva like myself, On myself learning new thing

This may be an absolutely essential book for those who are interested seriously in the ideas behind Shiva God of creation and destruction – the God of the centrifugal force which destroyed the Bindu and with Brahman, created the so-called Big Bang. The book is full of pictures and marvelous stories that even a Strong devotee of Shiva like myself, On myself learning new things and being transported to new worlds of wonder and excitement. I don't think there's a spare word in the whole book and if you are interested in Shiva I can suggest several other books that aren't worth half of what this one is worth I have to thank the author, Devdutt Pattanaik, but this incredible plethora of marvels equal to any book of fancy which turns out to be authentic and absolutely on the mark in a manner of showing one has to live life to the fullest. A Roman Catholic by birth and I practiced I am also a Hindu, and specifically a devotee of Shiva – I cannot recommend this book more highly.

A must-read if you love all things mythological

Seven Secrets of Shiva is a non-fiction work that endeavors to explain Shiva, the Lord of Kailash through the labyrinth of myths, stories and cultural perception.

Why is Shiva dressed like an uncouth tramp? Why does he smear ashes from the cemetery, on his body and dress with a tiger skin? Why did he arm Ravana and Basmasura with boons that finally led to trouble? Who is this God who acts like a hermit devoid of family, commitments and emotion and yet has a huge following of ganas, wives and sons?

One will find all the answers for these questions in this book. With impeccable research, Devdutt Patnaik steers us through Sati’s marriage to Shiva, the impact of her death on him and his resultant withdrawal from the world.

I liked the way, the author explains the role of Parvathi in Shiva’s world. It is she who facilitates Shiva’s engagement back in the world. It is she who teaches esoteric nuances of sex and love to him. And author’s assertion that Shiva was innocent to the world’s prejudices and cultural perception makes a lot of sense.

As with any other mythology book, the author has delved deep into both north and south indian fables, folk tales, myths and legends and has presented Shiva to the common man to understand, venerate and learn the primitive wisdom that would help us escape the trapping of the world.

Devdutt’s language is simple to understand yet he manages to explain complex arguments about Shiva in very understandable terms.

Plus Points: Thorough research of all legends, stories and myths related to Shiva.

Minus Points: Felt that the first chapter dragged a bit with a lot esoteric explanations.

This book is meant for all those people who view Hinduism from western work view.Mr Pattanaik's style of writing is very simple and keeps the reader glued.This book has answered lot of questions which I had carried since my childhood and has successfully transformed my mental state .The best take away from this book has been discussion about the topic-Meaning of life!
I feel proud of my religion after reading this book but this book is not about Hinduism and its advantages though.Shiv Ji is the centre point of the book and I will definite go for other works of the author.

A lot of compiled information

If you're looking for information particular to Computer/Information security jobs, you'll have to look hard in this book. A lot of irrelevant information surrounds a little information specific to Security.
Over half of the information in this book comes from public sources like job salaries, regional occupational statistics and general discussion.
It appears that the publisher has a base manuscript which is being published under different titles. For instance with a few changes this very book could be titled: Change your career: Bartending as your new career.
If you're looking for a resource to get you a quick start in looking for a Computer Security job, my recommendation: keep looking.

This book is right on the money and worth every dime of its modest price to the person considering a career change into IT (Information Technology) security. In this easy flowing self-help manual, Mr. McMillan starts by challenging the reader to honestly evaluate themselves in relation to a well defined self-test that can help to determine if network security is a good fit for their personality and preferred lifestyle. As he points out, IT (and especially IT security) isn't for everyone. This is a demanding field that requires a commitment to open-mindedness and self-discipline but the benefits can be numerous. In this book he details those benefits without sugarcoating the committments. Another aspect of this book that I really like is the way in which he explores many of the urban myths concerned with the IT field. Have you been told that you are too old, or too young, or too female, or too unqualified to be given an opportunity in the networking industry? Read what Mr. McMillan says about that, and you may be surprised. Lastly, he tells us, how to get started, how much the training may cost and how to get hired in this highly respected and in-demand field. Give yourself a gift. Read this book and change your life.

So right yet so wrong...

Viewing this book as one who designs scenery and lighting for theatre as well as consulting to architects on the design of theatres, this book is a masterclass on how NOT to design performance spaces. Some great architecture, but I'm afraid that but for a few of the buildings, the performers and the physical requirements of productions, and in some cases even the audience, seem to have been barely considered. It's not enough to have impressive architecture and all the bells and whistles; if the relationship between audience and performer is not right, the building is a failure. Iain Mackintosh, in his excellent book 'Architecture, Actor & Audience', identifies many essential points on this delicate relationship that most of the buildings in 'Performance Architecture & Design' sadly appear to have ignored. Fortunately many of the projects are presented as conceptual drawings, so hopefully common sense will prevail...

About the Author

Christie Bentham's love affair with Stony Lake is lifelong and inherited from three generations of her family. She hopes that this book will inspire future generations to love and preserve the lake.

Katharine Hooke's roots at Stony Lake go back to 1907 when her Grier and Mackenzie forebearers spent the summer camping before building their cottages. She has written about local history and is undertaking family research having retired from Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough. Her husband, two daughters and five grandchildren share her abiding love of Stony Lake.
