Very Good, but has bias

The author knows a lot about Forex and overall this is a must-read book for anyone into this market. However, the author doesnt explain what ecn/stp/dd brokers are (and why you should run away from dd), tries to make the reader think that opening an account outside the USA is riskier, and finally states that leverage above 50:1 isnt a good thing. Perhaps all this is because the Author works for a dd (dealing desk) brokerage in the USA, where leverage is limited... All in all you should read this book, but be critical and dont take every statement as absolute truth, as there are interests in play here.

I'm so glad at this time this book it is out of print. It was wasting paper.. This is a book full of nonsense and lies. Far fetched story on how a poor woman got treated but if you read it. Didn't you notice the victim "never played a role" What's done in the dark will come light...

This is such an amazing story!! It's sad and disgusting to know that such horrible and monstrous people actually walk this earth among us!!! I am truly inspired by this author!! I see a bit of my life in this book, to say the least. I myself have dabbled in writing the last several years, (my Mr. has even mentioned that I write my own book) and now that I know that it can be done and we as victims have a voice and a story I might just do that! :-)

I always love a good culture conflict with worthwhile people in the ...

I've been waiting for this book for years, after seeing half of an early draft by fellow writer Rebecca Bradley. Her depiction of a hunter-gatherer culture savaged by plague due to contact with an early agricultural civilisation has a realism that does justice to her academic background plain. Her story-telling skills and grasp of character make you feel you are living it with the heroes. I always love a good culture conflict with worthwhile people in the middle of it trying to make human sense of inhuman tragedy.

A good read!

I confess I like dawn of the world sagas, and this a good one. It catches your attention early, and keeps you anxious about the good guys, right to the end. You like the main characters, even when they're a bit on the evil side! It does get a bit...gory at times, but even that fits in with the background setting. And, it sets up Book 2, which means I'll have to shell out again to find out how things turn out, but that's not a bad thing. I like series books too!

I whistled through this book, testament to the writing and the pacing in Bradley's first in hopefully further installments. Bradley is a good writer. You can easily say that and have the sentence passed over as a mere generalised statement. But I mean it. She writes very well, characterising with aplomb, nailing the point of views of each person in the story and giving you something on every page.

Bradley has a history in, well, history (of the ancient kind) with her background in archaeology. This shines through with her hypothesising of rituals, events, clothing, language, culture etc. This adds to what is a rich tapestry of storytelling, interspersed with some dry humour, which keeps you turning the pages breezily because those ideas and nuggets are interwoven seamlessly. There are some fascinating elements of early religious thought and criticism as the societies of the established culture comes into clash with the People, the wondering hunter gatherers which certainly piqued my interest.

In sum, it is a darkly funny clash of ancient cultures and I hope Bradley continues to write further stories in what could be a great series.

My Favourite John Mefford Book So Far

A great debut mystery in the new Alexandra Giordano (nee Troutt) series! Alex wakes up into a nightmare! She is lying in a hospital bed, suffering from amnesia, being told she is recovering from an accident. But is it true? She doesn’t know anyone around her, and that includes her husband, children and colleagues! She is told that she is an FBI Special Agent (this you don’t doubt as her skills are quickly put to the test), a mother and the wife of a wealthy attorney. But with no memories of her life, she struggles to trust anyone, especially her husband who shows little love and compassion.
As her memories start to return, she realizes that most of them are of her work, not her friends and family life. Her first case, involving a serial killer, sees her teaming up with her former partner, Nick. Now, not only must she find the killer, but she must find herself too!
I really enjoyed getting to know Alex. She’s sassy, smart, tough and obviously very good at her job. She questions herself as a wife and mother, as she deals with two precocious, rude children, an absent husband and a nanny that seems to have taken her role in the family. Her character was well developed through the book, so that although she (and the reader) had no idea who she really is, getting to know her was an intriguing journey. I’m sure further books in the series will reveal even more juicy tidbits.
The plot was well thought out, with a good thriller-feel and some interesting twists. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Strong female lead character, tight story line, great read

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I first "met" John Mefford through a free copy of "Streets of Mayhem". When I got the chance to read AT Bay in return for a review, I took it. And I'm glad I did.

We meet Alex Troutt when she's in the hospital following a car accident, dealing with amnesia and wondering who all of the people are in her room. They try to tell her about herself...wife, mom, FBI agent...but she remembers none of it, although pieces work their way out of her brain as parts of the "old" Alex respond to various comments. (And she's typically a bit snarky, which is great.)

We follow her as she wonders why certain people (like the slutty nanny) are in her life, as she tries to figure out why she was in an accident, and as she tries to learn how to relate to her husband. Her ingrained skills come out as different situations arise, and she starts to realize that she really was a pretty good FBI agent. It's fascinating watching how her brain remembers little things (her former partner was a marathon runner, for example) while not remembering others (why does her daughter dress that way? what kind of mother was she? does she really love her husband?).

I gave this four stars because I got tripped up in a couple of places (partly because I live in the area where the story takes place and partly because of a couple of unresolved issues), but those things were really minor. I look forward to reading the next story in the series...Mefford has created a complex female character who will be dealing with a variety of issues for books to come. (Not all characters are as complex, at least not right now.)

An Enthralling New Series!

Imagine having everything your heart could desire and then it's suddenly ripped out of your hands. Putting myself in Alex's shoes, I think I may have lost my mind - literally. But this woman is tough. So tough that she heads right back to work despite the difficulties that plague her. This thriller is the first of what I hope to be a long series because I'm already addicted! Her character is extremely consistent in growing from start to finish. I especially love how she reinvigorates herself in her career and grows into quite an amazing agent. I think as the series continues, she'll get bits and pieces back that will help shape Alex even more but will also aid in her cases. Honestly, I was a bit sad as I neared the end of the book. Everything started coming together and I knew that it'd soon be over. Book two can't get here fast enough!

If you haven't read anything of John W. Mefford's before, I highly recommend this book along with his Booker series. I should have learned by now that Mefford's ability to enthrall me in his books has no boundaries.

Grade 2-4–From Crows in Rows to Obese Geese, this title presents a flock of bird-themed rhyming word problems. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division tables conveniently cover the endpapers, and a brief introduction to each mathematical function is provided on the first spread. Miller's festive, computer-generated illustrations give the book a retro look and jazz up the sometimes-forced, occasionally bland rhymes. The word problems are also somewhat repetitive. While this book is undoubtedly more enticing than worksheets, other titles do more to inspire and teach children. Jon Scieszka's Math Curse (Viking, 1995), for example, is a much better choice for making math fun and stretching kids' critical-thinking skills, while Greg Tang's The Grapes of Math (Scholastic, 2001) seamlessly embeds problem-solving strategies right into the (much more fluid and funny) rhymes. Gr. 1-3. Nineteen kinds of birds are featured in this collection of beginning word problems in verse. Adler's 20 "number riddles" challenge readers to decide whether to use addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division to find the answer. Luckily for younger kids, many of the answers can be determined by simply counting the birds in the colorful pictures. A typical riddle goes: "Scissor-tailed flycatchers / sitting in trees. / "Scissor-tailed flycatchers / sitting in threes. / Three to a tree. / Five trees in all. / How many scissor-tailed flycatchers / sitting in trees?" In small type and upside-down, a sentence below the text on each page tells the process for finding the answer and gives the answer itself. With serviceable verse and attractive computer-assisted illustrations, this will be useful for parents and teachers who want to introduce techniques for solving word problems. Carolyn Phelan

A great math activity for the elementary classroom and beyond

I teach and tutor third through fifth grade. This book was a great problem solving activity in my small group instruction. I covered the "answers" on each page with post it tape, gave each student a white board/marker, and read each page that has a wonderful bird math problem solving question on it written in pose. I asked the students to write the math problem (+, -, X, div) that would solve the query from each poem on their boards, and then we discussed our answers. The students loved it. I then had each student choose one page, illustrate it and copy the poem for a bulletin board which I named "Birds + Spring = Great Math Problems". I also hung a beautiful bird quilt that my students had made on a previous year. Great book, great springboard for all kinds of math instruction. But I also think it would be a great book to cuddle up with at home, one on one with your own favorite little student.
