When you are not quite sure, this is the book. A must for every library. I have my "English Handbook" from college and it is a bit tattered. "The Queeen's English" is the perfect replacement.

The history is better than the art

As a graphic resource, I find this book to be a bit lacking. I was hoping for something similar to the most excellent "The Art of Star Wars" series. Those books helped me immensely in my graphics classes in college. This robotech book should be called something like "Images from the show Robotech" or "Robotech episode guide". There are just not enough pages devoted to the sketches and technical drawing that an in-depth fan might want to see. For example the Cyclone ride armor gets all of one page. wow. Maybe if they had spent less time summarizing the episodes and more time show casing art-- backgrounds, character development, mecha thumbnails, etc...
That being said, the last section of the book chronicles the development not only of Robotech, but of Manga itself. I found it to be supremely interesting and wish it could have been more substantial. My guess is that the publishers were a bit unsure which direction this book really needed to go. It attempts to possibly satisfy casual and serious fans at the same time and doesn't really do either to any great degree. I'm still pleased with my purchase, but only because I paid so little for it as i bought it from one of the used sellers. If I'd paid $15 or $20, I would certainly feel a bit gyped.

A great piece of nostalgia

This book is an incredible piece of nostalgia for me, and I was thrilled to find a used copy in the Amazon Marketplace. I would highly recommend it to anyone who was a fan of the 1980s anime series Robotech. Contrary to the book's name, it is primarily an episode guide, with a short summary for each installment of the series. It does run through all three parts of the series: Macross, Southern Cross, and New Generation. The series itself is widely available on many streaming platforms these days, and this book makes an excellent companion to viewing the show. In addition to the episode guide portion of the book, there are character biographies, a bit of concept art, and even a summary of anime contemporary to this series. A must read for any Robotech fan.

This is an art book, not a novel.

Amazon's options presented in multiple choice format seem to think this is a novel or story-book. The "story" is not narrated at all. But the bits of backstory and details of each episode present great insight into the making of one of the first Anime titles to make it big in the U.S.. We also get to learn what inspired the creation of the Japanese version and how and why it was brought over to the U.S. in the first place.

Intruging,mysterious,suspense storyline & characters !

Great series

I was given this book for an honest review.

I loved the first book in this series and was interested to see where it would go next.
I was left gob smacked throughout this book. Dealings with the devil (drug lord Victor), I can't stand the smarmy creep and hope he gets what's coming to him. Jon the cop loves Kate and hates her too, he's become quite nasty so I'm not sure how that's going to pan out. Will he come to his senses, will he save the day and give them a HEA...I've no idea yet. Marcus her best friend and sometime lover, does he die, I don't know yet either. Kate has one run of bad luck after another in this good versus evil drug dealing world. I'm really enjoying this series and can't wait to see what happens next.

Approaching Interpretation

I simply had not expected to feel as welcome inside an academic book as I did in this one. It is a wonderful book that manages be at the same time both deeply philosophical and seriously practical without shortchanging either one. Hendrick Wagenaar is an accomplished interpretive researcher and theoretician who wants to explore the role that meanings and intentions play in people's public actions. How does a focus on intensions bring light and insight to policy analysis, and, how does one conduct such analysis with integrity and competence? For instance, a visiting imam's refusal to shake hands with a female government minister might be understood as insulting from the minister's point of view, but completely respectful from the imam's. To understand the stakes in this dispute, it helps a great deal to know something about both the imam's intention not violate tenets he acknowledges in the Koran and the minister's understanding of herself within a long struggle for women's equality in western democracies. In either case, one refers to meanings and intentions and, in this case, to a lack of a shared social-linguistic context.

If you have ever wanted to know more about how one deploys or develops such thinking in policy analysis, this book, especially the final section, will guide and encourage you. However, if you are aware that over the past forty years the philosophy of social and political inquiry has been exploding in developments and would like to make more sense of it all, this book really does an important service. Wagenaar includes chapters that, first, (gently) differentiate interpretive approaches from causality-based approaches and then (even more gently) differentiates several `schools' of interpretation from one another. These latter are divided up into hermeneutic, discursive, and dialogical studies of meaning, with subsets of each. In the third chapter Wagenaar provides insightful examples of each school examining institutional mental health. The subjects might be complex, but Wagenaar's writing is clear. He presents a lot of theory beautifully and understandably; he appreciates what is at stake and what has been achieved. Perhaps we owe this to the influence of Wayne Booth's notion, `fusion of horizons'; the idea that the purpose of interpretation is to help us make sense of one another. At any rate, Wagenaar finds a lot to celebrate in each of the traditions he studies. You might decide after reading this book that you want to start interviewing people and doing interpretive research. If so you would need to supplement this book with some of the material in the bibliography, but you would be well on your road to becoming a well-informed interpretive researcher.
